Nancy M. Modesitt is a Professor of Law at the University of Baltimore School of Law, where she has served on the faculty since joining as an assistant professor in fall 2007. Prior to this appointment, she taught at the American University, Washington College of Law from 2003 to 2007, serving as academic coordinator of the Legal Rhetoric Program during the 2005-2006 academic year and as an adjunct professor in 2002-2003.

Professor Modesitt's scholarly focus centers on Employment Law, Torts, and Lawyering Skills, with complementary expertise in Contracts, Labor Law, and Legal Rhetoric. Her practical experience in employment litigation and counseling—gained through practice at major law firms and the U.S. Department of Justice—informs her research on defending employers in discrimination cases and drafting employee intellectual property agreements. This practitioner perspective deeply enriches her teaching methodology across substantive law and skills-based courses.
Before transitioning to academia, Modesitt built extensive litigation experience handling employment matters ranging from discrimination defense to intellectual property negotiations, providing real-world context to her academic work in labor and employment law.
