Nancy Frasure-Smith is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Addiction at the Faculty of Medicine, Université de Montréal. She maintains a research affiliation with CRCHUM (Centre de recherche du Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal), the research center of the University Hospital Center of the Université de Montréal.
Dr. Frasure-Smith's research program focuses on the intersection of mental health and cardiovascular disease. Her primary areas of investigation include the psychosocial aspects of cardiovascular disease with particular emphasis on depression in cardiac patients, spouse adjustment in couples dealing with cardiovascular conditions, treatment approaches for depression and other psychosocial risks in cardiac patients, and the pathophysiology connecting depression and cardiovascular disease. Her work represents a critical bridge between psychiatric care and cardiology, addressing how psychological factors influence cardiac outcomes.
Her research has been supported by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), most notably through her leadership of the project "PREDICTORS OF DEPRESSION TREATMENT RESPONSE FOLLOWING AN ACUTE CORONARY SYNDROME" (2009-2015), which investigated how depression treatment affects recovery from acute cardiac events. This work demonstrates her commitment to improving cardiac patient care through better recognition and management of comorbid depression.
Dr. Frasure-Smith has collaborated with a multidisciplinary team including Jacques Turgeon, François Lespérance, Anil Nigam, Elise St André, Marc-André Laliberté, and Simon N Young, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of her research that spans psychiatry, cardiology, and clinical psychology.
