Nancy C. Reich Marshall is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Stony Brook University. She also serves as Past President of the International Cytokine & Interferon Society (ICIS) and is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Her laboratory investigates cytokine signaling pathways, particularly JAK-STAT mechanisms, and their roles in immune defense, viral infections, and cancer biology.
Her research focuses on:
- Molecular mechanisms of cytokine signaling in cancer (especially pancreatic cancer) and viral pathogenesis
- KRAS-driven tumorigenesis and immune evasion strategies
- Interferon responses in SARS-CoV-2 and other viral infections
- STAT transcription factor dynamics in cellular identity and disease
Analysis of her 15 most recent publications reveals strong emphasis on:
- KRAS/STAT3 interactions in pancreatic cancer progression
- Interferon-mediated immune defenses against viruses including SARS-CoV-2
- Novel mechanisms of oncogene dependency and therapeutic resistance
- Sex-specific pathology in viral infections
Her scientific awards include:
- Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)
- Past President of the International Cytokine & Interferon Society (ICIS)
She has advised over 30 graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, including Stephen D'Amico, Alexei Petrenko, and Hui-Chen Foreman. Her lab employs murine models and molecular techniques to study KRAS signaling in pancreatic cancer and interferon responses to pathogens.
