Mirko Trilling

Prof. Dr. Mirko Trilling is a Professor at the Institute of Virology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Duisburg-Essen. He leads a research group focused on viral immune evasion mechanisms, particularly studying cytomegaloviruses and their interactions with the host immune system.

Prof. Trilling's research focuses on viral immunology, with particular emphasis on:

• Viral immune evasion mechanisms, especially those employed by cytomegaloviruses
• Interferon signaling pathways and cytokine responses
• Jak-STAT signaling in viral infections
• Mechanisms of viral latency and reactivation
• Development of antiviral strategies targeting immune evasion

Analysis of Prof. Trilling's recent publications reveals a strong focus on cytomegaloviruses (CMV) and their interactions with the host immune system. His work spans from basic molecular mechanisms of immune evasion to clinical implications of viral infections, particularly CMV and SARS-CoV-2. A significant portion of his research examines how viruses manipulate host immune responses, with particular attention to interferon signaling, antigen presentation, and T cell recognition. His group has made important contributions to understanding how CMV proteins interfere with immune recognition and how these mechanisms might be targeted therapeutically.
