Nancy Buchan

Nancy R. Buchan is an Associate Professor of International Business at the Darla Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina. She holds roles as Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs and Director of the Undergraduate International Business Program. Her research focuses on trust, cooperation, and cross-cultural communication, often conducted through experimental economics and international collaborations. She has conducted experiments in 14 countries and developed scales measuring communication styles in cross-cultural contexts. Buchan's work appears in journals like Proceedings of the National Academy of Science and American Economic Review.

Education: Ph.D. in Marketing (Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, 1998), M.A. in International Studies (University of Pennsylvania, 1996), B.A. in International Relations and Economics (University of Wisconsin, 1989). She studied at Sophia University, Tokyo (1986–1988).

Research interests include globalization's impact on trust, social identity's role in cooperation, and cross-cultural negotiation. She has received NSF grants and awards for teaching excellence.
