Dr. Nancy Atchison is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Elementary Education in the Tift College of Education at Mercer University. She joined the faculty in 2022 after serving as an elementary classroom teacher for 26 years and an elementary instructional coach for six years. Concurrently, she was an adjunct for Mercer University from 2007 to 2022.

Dr. Atchison's research focuses on best practices in teacher education, including instructional strategies, course delivery models, and teacher candidate experiences to prepare effective classroom educators. Her teaching responsibilities primarily lie in the MAT in Elementary Program and occasionally in the Teacher Leadership Ed.S. Program. She teaches courses such as EMAT 671 (Teaching of Science and Health in Early Childhood Education) and EDUC 722 (Leadership in Professional Development).
She is actively involved in the field of early childhood education and teacher preparation, with a commitment to improving teacher education through research and practice. Additionally, she values family, service to others, and health and well-being.
