Nan Kim is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Her research focuses on memory studies, contemporary history, and the anthropology of politics, particularly exploring intersections of Korean War memory and reconciliation. She holds a BA in English from Princeton University and a PhD in Sociocultural Anthropology from UC Berkeley. She serves as a Research Fellow and Advisory Board member for the international project Beyond the Korean War.
Her work has been published in The Journal of Asian Studies and Revista Arte Internacional, and she authored the 2016 monograph Memory, Reconciliation and Reunions in South Korea: Crossing the Divide. Her 2015 contribution to The Routledge Handbook of Memory and Reconciliation in East Asia examines Korean War memory dynamics.
Kim participates in sessions at the ACHS 2016 conference addressing contested Korean histories and UNESCO’s Memory of the World Program. She also engages in debates on heritage and tourism’s evolving role in cultural preservation.
