Nalini Boodhoo is a Professor of Language Education at the University of East Anglia (UEA), based in the School of Education & Lifelong Learning. She has held leadership roles including Head of School (2010–2016), Acting Head of School (2019–2020), and Athena Swan Lead (2021–2023). Her academic leadership includes directing the Secondary PGCE, Modern Foreign Languages PGCE courses, and the MA in Second Language Education. She currently serves as Course Director for the MA Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
Before joining UEA, she taught Modern Languages in secondary schools across Manchester, Sussex, and Kent, holding roles such as Head of Department and School Governor. Her research focuses on second language teaching methodology, school improvement in developing countries, intercultural pedagogy, and teacher education. She actively supervises PhD/EdD students in these areas and contributes to academic governance through roles on UEA Council and Senate.
Boodhoo’s editorial roles include editing the Cambridge Journal of Education and serving on the boards of Impact (Chartered College of Teachers) and Compare: A Journal of Comparative and International Education. Her publications span language teaching strategies, curriculum development, and educational policy, with a focus on bridging theory and practice in multilingual contexts.
Her teaching interests emphasize teacher education and second language pedagogy, while her administrative contributions include leading postgraduate research admissions. She advocates for equitable educational practices and has pioneered initiatives to enhance language learning outcomes globally.
