Laura London serves as a Lecturer in Education (Secondary History) at the School of Education & Lifelong Learning, University of East Anglia (UEA), where she has been employed since 2018. She holds dual leadership roles as History Subject Lead for the Secondary PGCE program and joint lead for its Professional Development strand, leveraging 15 years of prior experience as a secondary history teacher in 11-18 schools.
Her academic credentials include a First Class BA History (Hons) from the University of Manchester, complemented by a PGCE in Secondary Education (History) and an MA in Higher Educational Practice, both earned at UEA.
London's research centers on subject-specific mentoring and antiracist education, with a focus on practical implementation in teacher training. She actively shapes national discourse through presentations at the Historical Association's annual conferences, contributions to Teaching History, and co-leadership of HA-hosted webinars for history mentors. Her work bridges theoretical frameworks with classroom-ready strategies for fostering inclusive historical understanding.
Analysis of her 2021-2024 publications reveals consistent emphasis on mentorship dynamics within university-school partnerships and urgent integration of decolonial approaches in teacher education. These works demonstrate evolving focus from structural collaboration in ITE (2021) toward explicit antiracist frameworks (2023-2024), reflecting broader shifts in educational equity discourse.
Her distinguished contributions are recognized through:
- Honorary Fellowship from the Historical Association (2023)
- Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy
As co-Chair of the History Teacher Educators' Network (HTEN), London directs national initiatives for history teacher development while mentoring PGCE students through UEA's programs. Her collaborative approach extends to school-based mentor networks, where she facilitates alignment between university tutors and classroom practitioners to strengthen teacher preparation.
