Nakia S. Gordon, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Marquette University. Her research focuses on emotion regulation, holistic wellness, and interpersonal synchrony, with a strong emphasis on physiological and behavioral outcomes. She earned her Ph.D. in behavioral neuroscience from Bowling Green State University and completed postdoctoral training in neuroimaging at Michigan State University.
Dr. Gordon teaches courses including Research Methods in Psychological Science, Health Psychology, and Affective Neuroscience. Her lab investigates how emotion regulation influences individual and interpersonal well-being, developing wellness programs for students and communities. Current projects explore physiological linkage during emotional experiences and the role of empathy in human flourishing.
Her advising includes both graduate students (e.g., Sara Swaneck, Joia Wesley) and undergraduates involved in data collection and analysis. The lab provides opportunities in physiological data recording, SPSS analysis, and conference presentations.
Key research contributions include studies on meditation's pain modulation effects, emotion regulation profiles, and autism spectrum disorder interventions. Though no explicit awards are listed, her work bridges neuroscience and clinical applications, contributing to both academic and community health initiatives.
