Helmholtz Institute for Functional Marine Biodiversityمعرفی
Nadège Legroux serves as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Helmholtz Institute for Functional Marine Biodiversity (HIFMB) at the University of Oldenburg since 2025, specializing in the intersection of human geography and social sciences to examine human-ocean relationships and marine biodiversity governance.
Her academic background includes a PhD in Geography from the University of Paul Valéry Montpellier III (2019-2024), an MSc in International Development from Sciences Po Paris School of International Affairs (2015-2018), and dual undergraduate degrees in Life Science (Sorbonne University Paris VI) and Humanities and Social Science (Sciences Po) completed concurrently between 2012 and 2015. She also gained professional experience as a Research Officer at the French Development Agency in Paris (2019-2022).
Research Interests:
Nadège investigates how social processes shape human-environment interactions in oceanic spaces, with emphasis on marine biodiversity conservation governance in areas beyond national jurisdiction. Her work analyzes 'ecologization' processes that render oceanic spaces knowable and governable, examines 'tipping' dynamics in marine ecosystems, and critically assesses the translation of these dynamics into international policy frameworks. She integrates perspectives from human geography, political ecology, and science and technology studies to address complex marine governance challenges.
As a core member of HIFMB's Marine Governance Status research group, she contributes to interdisciplinary projects addressing marine biodiversity conservation through socio-ecological systems analysis and policy-relevant scholarship in marine spatial planning and international ocean governance.
