Dr. Nabil Al-Omaishi is a Professor of Civil Engineering at The College of New Jersey, where he has served since 2003. He played a pivotal role in establishing the civil engineering department, acting as its first chair from 2006 and guiding ABET accreditation in 2008. His expertise spans structural engineering, prestressed concrete, and concrete material behavior.
- B.S., Civil Engineering, University of Baghdad (1972)
- M.E., Civil Engineering, University of Toronto (1991)
- Ph.D., Structural Engineering, University of Nebraska (2001)
Dr. Al-Omaishi’s research focuses on concrete technology, particularly creep, shrinkage, and modulus of elasticity in high-strength concrete. His work has led to new AASHTO specifications for prestress losses and influenced national standards through contributions to NCHRP Report 496.
His publications and research have been recognized with top awards in structural engineering, including the prestigious T.Y. Lin Award (ASCE) and Charles C. Zollman Award (PCI). He has also received multiple Educator-of-the-Year honors.
Dr. Al-Omaishi teaches courses in structural analysis, reinforced concrete design, and prestressed concrete. He has contributed to academic governance as Committee Chair for PRC Civil Engineering and continues to serve on diversity committees.
