Naazneen H. Barma is the Douglas and Mary Scrivner Professor of Public Policy, Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, and founding Director of the Scrivner Institute of Public Policy at the University of Denver's Josef Korbel School of Global and Public Affairs. Her research focuses on peacebuilding, foreign aid, international development, and global governance, with expertise in Southeast Asia and the Pacific. She has held roles including Young Professional at the World Bank (2007-2010) and Professor at the Naval Postgraduate School (2010-2020).
Education: PhD (2007) and MA (2002) in Political Science from UC Berkeley; MA (1997) and BA (1996) from Stanford University. Awards include the Susan S. Northcutt Award (2021) for advancing underrepresented scholars and the Korbel Outstanding Teaching Award (2022). Her work is supported by grants from the Carnegie Corporation, USIP, and others.
Research interests emphasize the political economy of statebuilding, aid effectiveness, and bridging academic-practitioner divides through initiatives like Bridging the Gap. Teaching includes courses on public policy and political economy at the graduate level.
