NG Siew Chien

Professor NG Siew Chien is a leading academic at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), serving as the Croucher Professor in Medical Sciences and Associate Dean (Research) at the Faculty of Medicine. She directs the Microbiota I-Center (MagIC) and holds key roles in the Centre for Gut Microbiota Research.

Her research focuses on the epidemiology, genetics, and pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the role of gut microbiota in health and disease, and microbial therapeutics such as fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT). Recent work explores connections between the gut microbiome and conditions like colorectal cancer, post-acute COVID-19 syndrome, and autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Her publications highlight breakthroughs in microbiome diagnostics for IBD, functional gut microbiota markers for ASD, and microbial interventions for metabolic and post-viral disorders. Awards include multiple Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher recognitions, the Bank of China Hong Kong Science and Technology Prize, and the New Cornerstone Investigator award. She contributes to global academic leadership as President of the Hong Kong Society of Gastroenterology and Associate Editor of Gut, while mentoring in CUHK's MBChB Global Physician-Leadership Stream.
