Dr. N. Ilgi Gerçek is currently affiliated with the Department of Archaeology, where she has taught ancient Near Eastern history and languages (Hittite, Akkadian, Sumerian) since 2016. Her prior roles include a postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Copenhagen, and research and teaching positions at the Koç University Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations and the Istanbul University Department of Hittitology.
Her educational background includes:
- Bilkent University - BA in Archaeology and History of Art (2005)
- University of Michigan - MA and PhD in Hittite and Mesopotamian Studies (2012)
She specializes in the social and political history of Anatolia during the Late Bronze Age, with a focus on imperialism, frontiers, and identity in Hittite Anatolia. Her forthcoming monograph examines the Hittite Empire’s interactions with the Kaska groups in its northern frontier zone.

She also teaches Latin and ancient Near Eastern languages, contributing to the study of Anatolian civilizations through both pedagogical and research efforts.
