Dr. Myae Han is a Professor of Early Childhood Education at the University of Delaware’s Department of Human Development and Family Sciences, within the College of Education and Human Development. Her research focuses on linking play with early literacy learning, play-based curricula, teacher professional development, and supporting culturally diverse children. She has co-edited books such as Play and Literacy and Play and Curriculum, and her work has appeared in journals like the International Journal of Play and Early Childhood Research Quarterly.
Dr. Han has led federal and state-funded grants, including Early Reading First and Early Head Start University Partnership initiatives. She has received prestigious awards including the 2024 Doctor of Play Award and the 2020 Edgar Klugman Award for Leadership in Play. Her service includes leadership roles in organizations like the Association for the Study of Play (TASP) and the American Educational Research Association (AERA).
Her research emphasizes play’s role in language development, teacher training efficacy, and addressing disparities in early childhood education. Recent studies explore play in homeless families, refugee education, and pandemic impacts on child care. Dr. Han advocates for policy reforms to integrate play into educational systems and supports quality improvement in family child care programs.
