Murshed Chowdhury

Murshed Chowdhury is an Associate Professor and Undergraduate Director in the Department of Economics at the University of New Brunswick, Canada. He holds a PhD in Economics and has taught at institutions including Algoma University, King’s University College, and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology. His research focuses on open economy macroeconomics, development economics, financial regulations, and migration studies. He has authored numerous articles in journals such as the European Journal of Political Economy and Canadian Public Policy, and has received grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and NBIF.

Dr. Chowdhury’s teaching philosophy emphasizes critical thinking and experiential learning, recognized by the Allan P. Stuart Memorial Award for Excellence in Teaching (2024). He supervises graduate students, advises on the Bank of Canada’s Governor Challenge, and serves on UNB’s Senate. His service roles include coordinator for International Development Studies and reviewer for SSHRC grants.

Key research themes include FDI dynamics, immigrant labor force participation, financial sector resilience, and ICT diffusion in developing economies. His work bridges theoretical economics with policy-relevant insights, particularly in low-income and emerging markets.
