معرفی
Dr. Murray Sciffer is an Associate Lecturer at the University of Newcastle, currently based in the English Language and Foundation Studies Centre (ELFSC), where he serves as Course Coordinator for on-campus foundation mathematics courses. He previously held full-time roles in the School of Mathematics and Physical Sciences (2007–2015) and lectured in physics and mathematics across multiple campuses. His academic career spans over three decades, with early involvement in tutoring and lecturing in mathematics and physics.
Research Expertise: Dr. Sciffer's PhD (1998, University of Newcastle) focused on solar physics. His research now centers on modeling ULF (ultra-low frequency) Alfven waves and their interactions with the ionosphere and magnetosphere, with applications to space weather. He uses computational models and experimental data from satellites, radars, and ground-based magnetometers to study energy deposition and wave behavior.
Education: PhD in Mathematics (Solar Physics), University of Newcastle; Bachelor of Mathematics (Honours), University of Newcastle.
Grants & Funding: Secured over $143k in grants, including a major project ($132k) on magnetospheric plasma waves funded by the Australian Antarctic Division. Supervised five PhD students in physics and related fields.
Awards: None explicitly listed in the text.
Labs/Teams: Active in the Centre for Space Physics and collaborates with international teams on projects like SuperDARN radar analysis and Van Allen Probe data interpretation.
