Professor Murray Print is Professor of Political Education and Chair of Education at the University of Sydney's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. A recognized leader in civics education, he holds degrees from the University of Western Australia (BA), University of Sydney (MA), and Ohio State University (PhD). His research focuses on civics and citizenship education, youth political participation, and curriculum development.
He led development of the Australian Curriculum Civics and Citizenship (2013) and has directed major research projects including ARC-funded studies on youth democratic participation. International collaborations include comparative studies across Europe and Asia, and current projects with Thailand's Civic Coalition and Beijing Normal University developing citizenship curricula. Awards include the Centenary Medal (2003) and Distinguished Fellow Award from University of Auckland (2016).
Professor Print advises seven PhD students researching citizenship education, political socialization, and global citizenship. His research addresses how schools build democratic competence through curriculum design and teaching pedagogy, with recent publications examining participatory practices, political knowledge acquisition, and the role of humanities education in developing active citizenship.
