Dr. Murray Jelinski is a Professor and Interim Head of the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at the University of Saskatchewan's Western College of Veterinary Medicine, holding the Alberta Chair in Beef Cattle Health and Production Medicine. His career spans clinical practice, pharmaceutical industry roles, and academia since 1985.
Academically, he holds a DVM (1985) and MSc in epidemiology (1992) from the WCVM. His research focuses on bovine health challenges including Mycoplasma bovis epidemiology, feedlot lameness (e.g., toe tip necrosis syndrome), and veterinary profession demographics. Notable collaborations include work with Dr. Chad Paetsch on lameness pathogenesis.
Key research areas include understanding CPPS caused by Mycoplasma bovis using genotyping, investigating hoof health issues like digital dermatitis, and analyzing antimicrobial resistance patterns in feedlot pathogens. His work bridges clinical practice with population-level epidemiology, addressing both disease mechanisms and veterinary workforce dynamics.
Recent studies highlight advancements in understanding pathogen transmission, biofilm roles in resistance, and the impact of management practices on lameness prevalence. His demographic surveys provide critical insights into veterinary workforce trends across western Canada.
