Dr. Muireann O'Dwyer is a Lecturer in the School of International Relations at the University of St Andrews, part of the Faculty of Arts. Her research focuses on feminist political economy within the European Union, particularly the intersection of gender, race, and economic policy. She holds a PhD from University College Dublin (2017) and previously taught at the University of Warwick and University College Dublin.
Dr. O’Dwyer’s work examines how gender and race shape EU economic governance, including austerity policies, crisis management, and pandemic responses. Her research has been published in leading journals such as the Journal of Common Market Studies and the European Journal of Politics and Gender. She is affiliated with the Centre for Global Law and Governance.

Dr. O’Dwyer supervises PhD students Leo Nwoye and Sandra Park. She critiques the exclusionary nature of economic expertise and explores humor as a tool for ontological security in political discourse.
Her work contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly gender equality (SDG 5) and reduced inequalities (SDG 10).
