Ian Manners

Lund University's Department of Political Science Professor Ian Manners specializes in European Union normative power within planetary politics. His research examines symbiotic relationships across planetary economy, society, ecology, conflict, and polity, focusing on EU economic competitiveness, social fairness, climate adaptation, preparedness union strategy, and democratic protection. With 30 years of EU-Britain-Denmark-Sweden relations expertise, he contributes to EU SDG Agenda 2030 and Enlargement 2030 initiatives.

Research areas span critical social theory, political psychology of emotions, ontological security, and gender studies. Manners actively participates in EU Environmental Politics Research Group, Global Political Thought, and Political Psychology Gender Research Group.

Past recognitions include the 2007 Best Academic Works on EU and 2002 Journal of Common Market Studies Best Article Prize. His 88+ publications cover EU policy evolution since 1996, with recent 2024-2025 works analyzing planetary health politics, Russian-Ukraine war pedagogy, and emotional governance frameworks.
