Dr. Muhammad Yasir is a Researcher at the School of Optometry and Vision Science, University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney). His work focuses on antimicrobial peptides, biofilms, and antibiotic resistance mechanisms. He holds a PhD in Medical Microbiology from UNSW (2020) and an MPhil in Microbiology from Quaid-e-Azam University (2013). Yasir has secured over $300,000 in grant funding and has been recognized with awards such as the BridgeTech REDI Fellowship and Academic Research Excellence Award.
His research explores surface-bound antimicrobial peptides, disinfectant efficacy, and antiviral agents. He currently co-supervises four PhD students. Yasir’s publications span topics like peptoid design, biofilm disruption, and genomic prediction of antibiotic resistance. He has developed antimicrobial contact lens coatings and contributed to understanding viral aerosol control via essential oils.
Key achievements include non-toxic antimicrobial coatings for orthopaedic implants and UV-LED disinfection protocols for medical devices. Yasir maintains affiliations with the American and Australian Societies for Microbiology and the Cornea and Contact Lens Society of Australia.
