Ms Mahjabeen Khan is a Visiting Research Fellow at the School of Optometry and Vision Science (SOVS), University of New South Wales (UNSW), where she conducts interdisciplinary research on antimicrobial resistance in ocular pathogens and develops novel disinfection systems. Her work bridges microbiology, genomics, and clinical applications to address hospital infection control and eye health challenges.
- Education: PhD in Microbiology and Molecular Biology (UNSW, 2021), Bachelors (Hazara University, 2010), M.Phil (Hazara University, 2012), and B.Ed (Sarhad University, 2015).
- Research Focus: Analysis of bacterial genomes (particularly Pseudomonas aeruginosa), development of UV-based disinfectants, bacteriophage therapy for ocular infections, and microbiome changes due to mask wear.
- Current Projects: Genome sequencing of ocular bacteria, bacteriophage development, and disinfection system innovation in collaboration with industry partners.
- Awards: Brian Kirby Award for research excellence (2021), Fellowship from the American Society for Microbiology (2021).
- Publications: 7 peer-reviewed journal articles (Q1/Q2 journals), 1 conference abstract, and 2 preprints documenting her findings on antimicrobial resistance and infection control.
