Muhammad Yasir Khan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Pittsburgh and a Fellow at the Center for Governance and Markets. He is also affiliated with the Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), IZA Institute of Labor Economics, and the Mahbub ul Haq Research Centre at LUMS. His research focuses on Development Economics, Political Economy, and Behavioral Economics, with a particular emphasis on public sector incentives, political motivations, and social norms influencing women’s political participation. He employs field and policy experiments in his research.
Yasir Khan holds a Ph.D. from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. He completed his undergraduate studies at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and earned dual master’s degrees from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore and Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.
His recent work examines the impact of motivational strategies on public sector performance, the role of politician motivations in governance, and the design of effective public health policies. His research has been published in top journals such as the Journal of European Economic Association and Journal of Public Economics. Current projects explore time preferences in public service, male perceptions of women’s political participation, and the application of technology to improve healthcare worker performance.
