Dr. Muhammad Ali is an Associate Professor of Accounting at the Department of Accounting, Data Analytics, Economics and Finance, La Trobe Business School, La Trobe University (2010–present). Previously, he held roles as Senior Lecturer at La Trobe University and Lecturer at the University of New England. He earned a PhD from La Trobe University and a Master of Business (Accounting) from Monash University. His research focuses on corporate governance, corporate disclosure, CSR reporting, accounting quality, international accounting, and capital markets. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles in top journals like the Journal of Business Finance and Accounting (ABDC A*) and the British Accounting Review (ABDC A*). Dr. Ali has supervised 16 PhD students and acted as an external examiner for 36 theses. He serves on editorial boards of journals including Accounting and Finance and the International Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Performance Evaluation. His work aligns with Sustainable Development Goals 13 (Climate Action) and 5 (Gender Equality). He is actively involved in grants, including studies on customer satisfaction in loan contracting and conflict mineral disclosure impacts.
Research Interests: Corporate governance, CSR reporting, accounting quality, international accounting standards, financial fraud, audit quality, and capital markets dynamics. He frequently explores intersections between cultural factors (e.g., gambling culture) and financial decision-making.
Grants: Secured grants on topics like customer satisfaction in loan contracting (2022–2023) and conflict mineral disclosure effects (2020–2022). His research has addressed global challenges like pandemic impacts on sustainability performance and firm value.
