معرفی
Morten Nyborg Støstad is a Research Fellow and Post-doctoral Scholar at the FAIR Institute of the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) since 2023. Previously, he served as a Lecturer at UC Berkeley (Spring 2024) and earned his PhD in Economics from the Paris School of Economics in 2023. He is also a Fellow at the World Inequality Database. His work bridges economics and astrophysics, with early contributions to studies of stellar dynamics near Sagittarius A*.
Education:
- PhD in Economics, Paris School of Economics (2023)
- Prior studies in Astrophysics, focusing on young stellar clusters and galactic centers
Research Interests:
His primary focus is the societal impacts of economic inequality, particularly framing inequality as an externality affecting tax policy, social welfare, and political outcomes. His economics work employs both theoretical and empirical methods. Earlier astrophysics research explored young stars orbiting Sagittarius A*, addressing the 'Paradox of Youth' and measuring stellar cluster edges through spectral analysis.
Key Achievements:
- Co-authored papers in Astrophysical Journal on Galactic center stellar dynamics (2015)
- Developed Item Response Theory models for adaptive testing in astronomy education
Grants & Collaboration:
His current work includes global experiments on redistributive preferences and fairness beliefs, with collaborators like Alexander Cappelen and Bertil Tungodden. Research spans 40+ countries, analyzing tax policies, inequality perceptions, and political behavior.
Labs & Affiliations:
Primary affiliation: FAIR Institute (NHH). Active in global inequality research networks and experimental economics collaborations.
