Dr. Morn Capper is a Senior Lecturer in Heritage and lead for Museums and Heritage Practice at the University of Chester's Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. With a background in museum education at Sheffield Museums and Galleries Trust, she specializes in archaeology and history, focusing on sustainable heritage partnerships linking universities, museums, and communities. Her PhD and MA were earned at the University of Sheffield.
Her research explores power and identity in Anglo-Saxon Mercia, examining lordship, borderlands, and heritage impacts on modern communities. Key projects include studies on female medieval leadership (Aethelflaed), Shrewsbury Castle excavations, and stained glass conservation at St Mary's Church. She champions interdisciplinary approaches to heritage preservation, digital methods, and ethical collections management.
Public engagement is central to her work, evidenced by collaborations with the Staffordshire Hoard Mercian Trail and Leverhulme-funded diaspora studies. She teaches undergraduate courses in archaeological heritage, public history, and museum management, plus postgraduate modules in sustainable heritage practice and preventative conservation.
Professional activities include steering groups for heritage conservation, conference organization on topics like heritage crime, and membership in the Offa's Dyke Collaboratory. She holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education from the University of Chester and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
