Morgane Burnel is a Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the University of Poitiers, affiliated with the Center for Research on Cognition and Learning (CeRCA) and the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme et de la Société (MSHS). Her research bridges cognitive psychology, linguistics, and clinical applications with a focus on developmental disorders and educational inclusion.
Her primary research centers on Theory of Mind development in typical and atypical populations, particularly Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). She investigates how syntactic embedding and executive functions contribute to belief attribution, examines visual perspective taking mechanisms, and explores narrative skills. Recent work extends to written language applications including inclusive writing practices and dyslexia, with implications for dimensional approaches to psychopathology and school inclusion strategies.
Burnel's publication trajectory (2017-2021) demonstrates consistent methodological innovation in ToM assessment and intervention. Key contributions include developing language-reduced ToM scales, establishing grammar-mentalizing links through training studies, and analyzing narrative-cognition relationships. Published exclusively in Q1 journals, her work integrates experimental developmental psychology with clinical linguistics to address cognitive challenges in ASD and developmental language disorders.
As a CeRCA researcher, she maintains extensive collaborations across French and Swiss institutions including LPNC (Grenoble), LIP/PC2S (Savoie Mont Blanc), LPC (Aix-Marseille and Strasbourg), ABCCD (Fribourg), and the Psychology Laboratory of Franche-Comté. These partnerships facilitate interdisciplinary projects spanning cognitive assessment, language acquisition, and social development research.
