Morgan Jerald is an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, affiliated with the Department of Psychology. Her research focuses on sociocultural factors influencing Black women’s gender beliefs, sexual well-being, and experiences of sexualization. She leads the Intersectionality and Marginalization (I.AM) Lab, which examines how oppression shapes Black women’s identities using a strengths-based approach.
Her work integrates social psychology, Black feminism, and communication studies to analyze media’s role in socializing racial/gender stereotypes among Black youth. Recent projects explore the impact of Jezebel stereotype awareness on sexual attitudes and behaviors. She has advised lab manager Milena (PhD candidate at University of Illinois-Chicago) and RA Maddy Cometa (Master’s student at University College Dublin).
Her lab recently celebrated RAs Jordyn Chesir (Serendipity Award winner) and Odilon Aranda (Outstanding Undergraduate Research Scholar). Dr. Jerald’s recent publication in Social and Personality Psychology Compass discusses leveraging psychology in community-building for scholars of color.
