She serves as Chief of Genomics at Canada’s National Microbiology Laboratory (Public Health Agency of Canada). Her work focuses on microbial genomics and metagenomics applied to public health challenges, including pathogen surveillance and pandemic response. She has contributed to modernizing national disease surveillance systems through genomic technologies.
- Positions: Adjunct Professor (UofM), Chief of Genomics (NML)
- Key Affiliations: National Microbiology Laboratory, Canadian North Helicobacter pylori (CANHelp) Working Group
Research emphasizes genomic epidemiology, microbial virulence mechanisms, and metagenomics for non-cultivable pathogens. Her lab supports Canada’s pandemic response via SARS-CoV-2 sequencing and continues non-COVID infectious disease research. She advocates for genomic data quality standards and has secured funding from Genome Canada, CIHR, and other agencies.
Notable achievements include leadership in the CanCOGeN initiative and receipt of multiple awards for public health contributions. Current projects include microbial genomic applications for diagnostics and vaccine efficacy monitoring.
