Moonshiram Dooshaye is a Ramon y Cajal Researcher and group leader of the Group of Bioinspired Materials at the Institute of Materials Science of Madrid (ICMM), part of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). His research focuses on synchrotron-based X-ray spectroscopy to investigate catalytic processes for renewable energy conversion, with emphasis on solar fuel production and water splitting.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry from Purdue University, U.S.A. (2008-2013)
Dr. Dooshaye specializes in time-resolved X-ray absorption spectroscopy to characterize electronic and geometric structures in catalytic intermediates, particularly for hydrogen evolution and water oxidation reactions. His work pioneers picosecond-scale ultrafast studies of cobalt-based catalysts, revealing mechanistic pathways for H-H bond formation and solar fuel generation. Key contributions include elucidating metal oxidation states and structural configurations in bioinspired catalytic systems for artificial photosynthesis.
Scientific Awards:
- Ramon y Cajal Fellowship (2022-2026)
- Alexander Von Humboldt Fellowship (2017-2018)
As Principal Investigator, Dr. Dooshaye directs multiple grants including Spain's Ramon y Cajal program (2022-2026), Ministerio de Ciencia funding for earth-abundant water-splitting catalysts (2020-2022), and Comunidad de Madrid support for spectroscopic tool development. He leads the Group of Bioinspired Materials at ICMM, utilizing advanced synchrotron techniques to design catalysts for solar fuels and methane oxidation, with research disseminated through high-impact publications in journals like Nature Chemistry and JACS.
