Prof. Mony Almalech, DSc is a full Professor of General and Comparative Linguistics at the Department of New Bulgarian Studies, New Bulgarian University (NBU). He holds a Doctorate in Philology and multiple academic titles, including Professor since 2007. His academic career spans over 40 years, with roles at NBU, Sofia University, and international institutions like the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He has led the Department of New Bulgarian Studies and served on numerous academic committees.
Research interests include semiotics, color symbolism in religion and folklore, linguistic relativity, and Hebrew-Bulgarian comparative studies. He authored 19 monographs, textbooks, and over 200 articles on topics like biblical color semantics, linguistic pragmatics, and cultural units in the Old Testament. Notable works include The Light in the Old Testament and Red Codes in the Old Testament.
Publications focus on interdisciplinary semiotic analyses of biblical texts, color symbolism, and linguistic structures. His recent work explores cultural units of colors (blue, red, yellow) in Old Testament contexts. Almalech is a member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, International Association for Semiotic Studies (IASS), and founded the Southeast European Center for Semiotic Studies at NBU.
He has advised doctoral candidates and contributed to academic administration, including roles in NBU's Senate. His research integrates linguistics, theology, and cultural studies, emphasizing symbolic systems in religious texts and modern language applications.
