Dimitar Trendafilov is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at New Bulgarian University (NBU), holding this position since early 2025. His academic journey includes a Master of Laws from Veliko Tarnovo University (2005), an MBA from NBU (2009), and a Master's in Intellectual Property and Business from UNSS (2021). He earned his PhD from NBU, focusing on brand development, commercial communication, and market value creation.
Trendafilov's research spans marketing, brand management, consumer behavior, semiotics, and cultural studies. He has pioneered projects blending academic and industry perspectives, including 70+ seminars with branding practitioners, international collaborations like the 'Culture and Communication of Food' project (2017-2020), and student competitions with major corporations. His scholarly output includes two textbooks (Retail Marketing and Management, 2017; Brand Building and Promotion, 2022) and over 40 articles analyzing brand semiotics, consumer rituals, and marketing innovation.
Administratively, he served as NBU's Vice-Rector for International Affairs (2018-2024) and coordinated its participation in the European Reform University Alliance. His teaching portfolio covers core marketing disciplines, including Brand Strategy, Consumer Behavior, and Semiotic Brand Studies, delivered across NBU's bachelor's and master's programs, including joint initiatives with the University of York.
