Montserrat Rivas

Maria Montserrat Rivas is an Associate Professor at the University of Oviedo (Spain) since 2008, with a Ph.D. in Physics. She specializes in magnetic materials for bio-applications and energy, leading a 15-member transdisciplinary research group integrating physicists, chemists, engineers, biologists, and medical doctors. Her work bridges fundamental and applied magnetism, with leadership in international conferences and editorial roles.

• Education: B.Sc. in Physics (University of the Basque Country), Ph.D. in Physics (University of Oviedo).

Research Focus: She pioneers magnetic materials for biomedical and energy applications, emphasizing collaboration across disciplines. Her initiatives include bilingual teaching, e-campus platforms, and gamification in education. Her editorial roles include Chief Open Access Editor for the IEEE Magnetics Society section in IEEE Access and Associate Editor for IEEE Magnetics Letters.

Leadership & Service: She chaired the 2017 Nanomaterials Applied to Life Sciences conference and the 2019 10th International Conference on Fine Particle Magnetism. Currently, she serves as Women in Magnetism Chair (2023–Present) and Vice Chair of the Standards Adhoc Committee (2024–Present). She has organized symposia on biomagnetism at Intermag, MMM, and Joint conferences.
