Monique Rainford

Dr. Monique Rainford is an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences at Yale School of Medicine. Her work focuses on eliminating health disparities for African American women, particularly in maternal health and pregnancy-related mortality. She advocates for lifestyle medicine interventions addressing diet, exercise, and stress reduction rooted in systemic racism. Dr. Rainford is a vocal advocate for healthcare equity, co-authoring opinion pieces on cervical cancer screening innovations and over-the-counter birth control access.

Her research emphasizes understanding and dismantling barriers faced by Black women in obstetric care. She has published books including Pregnant While Black: Advancing Justice for Maternal Health in America. Collaborations include Yale’s School of Public Health and School of Management, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to healthcare justice.

Dr. Rainford’s clinical practice provides general Ob/Gyn care with a focus on culturally competent care. She actively engages in public health initiatives to improve access to preventive care and reproductive health services.
