Monika Mommertz

Dr. Monika Mommertz is a Lecturer in History at the Department of History, University of Basel, Switzerland, where she has been teaching Early Modern History since 2016.

Her research interests span early modern history of knowledge and science, history of violence, and history of religion, often examined through gender and global perspectives. Her current project focuses on early modern heroisation, exclusion, and knowledge transfer from a "longue durée" perspective. She connects these themes to broader questions about how historical narratives are constructed and how power operates through cultural and intellectual systems.

Dr. Mommertz has received numerous research grants and fellowships from prestigious institutions including the Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften, Max-Planck-Institut für Wissenschaftsgeschichte (twice), Universities of Halle-Wittenberg and Vienna, and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft at Humboldt-University, Berlin (twice).
