Monika Kumar, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, specializing in Hematology and Oncology. She joined the faculty in 2020 and holds certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine in hematology and oncology. Dr. Kumar's professional roles include serving on committees such as the Supporting Women Achieving Greatness (SWAG) Committee and the Hematology-Oncology Division Education Workgroup. She is also an Editor and Faculty Advisor for The Healing Arts, a literary journal affiliated with UT Southwestern's Internal Medicine program.
Dr. Kumar's educational background includes a bachelor's degree in public health from Tulane University (magna cum laude), a medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport, and a master's in public health from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center. She completed her internal medicine residency at Virginia Commonwealth University as a Global Health and Health Disparities Scholar and her hematology-oncology fellowship at UT Southwestern, where she served as Chief Fellow.
Her research focuses on cancer treatment methodologies, drug therapies, and clinical trials, with contributions to peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and case reports. She currently acts as a sub-investigator on multiple clinical trials. Professional affiliations include the Texas Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, and American Society of Clinical Oncology.
