Professor Monika Betzler serves as Chair of Practical Philosophy and Ethics at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich's Faculty of Philosophy, Philosophy of Science and Religious Studies. She also leads the Master's program in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPW) and is a member of the ProEnviron Board, which focuses on environmental humanities research and initiatives.
Her research spans the breadth of practical philosophy, with particular emphasis on normative ethics, theories of the good life, moral psychology, action theory, metaethics, and applied ethics. Professor Betzler's work represents practical philosophy in all its diversity, examining fundamental questions about moral reasoning, ethical frameworks, and the philosophical underpinnings of human action and decision-making.
As a member of the Center for Ethics and Philosophy in Practice (ZEPP), Professor Betzler contributes to interdisciplinary research that bridges theoretical ethical frameworks with practical applications in contemporary society. Her leadership extends to organizing academic events such as workshops on accountability practices in law and philosophy, and exploring concepts like desert and choice under incompleteness.
Professor Betzler maintains an active presence in both teaching and research, with office hours available by appointment at Schellingstraße 10 in Munich. Her work connects philosophical inquiry with pressing contemporary ethical challenges, including those related to environmental ethics through her involvement with ProEnviron.
