Monika Betzler is a Professor and Chair for Practical Philosophy and Ethics at Ludwig Maximilian University Munich (Germany). She specializes in normative ethics, metanormative theory, moral psychology, ethics of personal relationships, and philosophy of agency. Her work bridges theoretical philosophy with practical applications, such as bioethics and policy advisory roles. She has held positions at leading institutions including the University of Bern and UC Berkeley.
Her research emphasizes the ethical dimensions of personal relationships and agency, with notable contributions to relational freedom and post-divorce duties. Betzler has secured over €4.8 million in grants, including leading the Munich School of Ethics in Practice (Volkswagen Foundation-funded). She has supervised 26 doctoral students and serves on prestigious committees like UNESCO’s International Bioethics Committee and the Swiss Federal Ethics Committee.
