Monika Betzler is a Professor at the Philosophy Department of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich, where she holds the Chair of Practical Philosophy and Ethics. She serves as Director of the Executive Master Programme Philosophy – Politics – Economics (PPE) and is Spokeswoman of the Munich Center for Ethics and Philosophy in Practice.

Her research focuses on moral philosophy, ethics of personal relationships, autonomy, empathy, and moral conflicts. Recent work explores the normative force of personal projects, relational duties in divorce, and the ethical dimensions of paternalism and empathy.
Her 15 most recent publications span normative ethics, relational morality, and interdisciplinary themes in emotion and cognition, with forthcoming contributions in Philosophy: The Journal of the Royal Institute of Philosophy and The Monist. She has received the Robert Papazian Essay Prize (2019) and was honored with a Summa cum laude PhD.
