Monika Ardelt

Monika Ardelt is a Professor of Sociology at the University of Florida, affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She holds the 2008 Colonel Allan R. and Margaret G. Crow Term Professorship and is a Founding Faculty Member of the University of Florida Center for Spirituality and Health. Her academic journey includes a Diploma in Sociology from Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University (Frankfurt/Main) and a Ph.D. in Sociology from UNC-Chapel Hill. Ardelt specializes in wisdom, aging, and spirituality, with a focus on successful human development across the life course. She developed the widely-used Three-Dimensional Wisdom Scale (3D-WS) and has contributed to understanding aging well, dying well, and the role of spirituality in later life. Her research spans interdisciplinary collaborations, exploring wisdom's impact on well-being, resilience, and organizational behavior.

She serves on editorial boards for journals like Journal of Aging Studies and Research in Human Development, and has led grants on topics such as wisdom cross-culturally and spirituality in aging. Ardelt teaches courses on aging, qualitative methods, and death/dying in old age, emphasizing practical wisdom application. Her recent work examines wise organizations' benefits for employee well-being and AI's potential to embody wisdom.
