Dr. Jennifer Keene serves as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Professor of Sociology at UNLV. Her scholarship examines aging and the life course with emphasis on social stratification, family caregiving dynamics, and social inequalities. She co-authored Death and Dying in America (2009), which analyzes cultural rituals surrounding mortality in the United States.
Dr. Keene received her graduate education at Florida State University and joined UNLV in 2001. She leads the Nevada Volunteerism Research Initiative, a community partnership studying civic engagement patterns across the state. Her current research investigates how volunteer activities impact subjective well-being in later life stages.
Her teaching portfolio includes Statistical Methods in Social Sciences, Sociology of Aging, and Marriage and Family courses. She previously served as Associate Dean and Executive Associate Dean before assuming her current decanal position in 2018.
