Carol A. Podgorski is a Part-Time Professor and Associate Chair of Faculty Affairs in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. She serves as Director of the Finger Lakes Center of Excellence for Alzheimer's Disease, Clinic Director of the UR Medicine Memory Care Program, and holds multiple leadership roles in geriatric and dementia-related initiatives.
- Education: PhD in Sociology, MS in Marriage and Family Therapy, MPH in Public Health, BA in Sociology/Psychology (all from University of Rochester)
Her research focuses on medical family therapy applications for dementia caregiving, family systems-oriented care models, and social determinants of mental health in aging populations. Recent work explores stress adaptation in dementia caregivers, social network dynamics in suicide risk mitigation, and pandemic-era social connection strategies.
Podgorski has received numerous accolades including the 2023 Excellence in Advocacy Awardee for Volunteer Advocate, 2021 Family-Oriented Care Award, and multiple teaching/mentorship distinctions. She maintains active leadership in organizations like the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy and Gerontological Society of America.
