Monideepa Tarafdar is the Charles J. Dockendorff Endowed Professor of Information Systems at the Isenberg School of Management, University of Massachusetts Amherst, and PhD Coordinator in her department. Her research focuses on technostress management, social media’s dual impact on users, and ethical challenges in AI-driven hiring. She explores how technology influences workplace well-being, particularly for gig economy workers like Uber drivers, and advocates for societal resilience through responsible technology use.
Education:
- Ph.D. (Major MIS, Minor Strategic Management), Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, India
- Bachelor’s degrees in physics, math, and chemistry
- Master’s in Engineering
Research Interests: Monideepa studies technostress origins (overload, complexity, uncertainty, invasion, insecurity) and coping strategies like distancing or reorientation. She investigates social media’s paradoxical effects—addiction versus activism—and gender/ethnic bias in AI hiring tools. Her work bridges organizational strategies, public interest technology, and labor dynamics in digital economies.
