Monica Wendel

Monica Wendel is a Professor and Dean at the Joseph J. Zilber School of Public Health at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Her work focuses on social and health equity, structural determinants of health, and community engagement.

Dr. Wendel’s research emphasizes systems change and social justice approaches to address root causes of health inequities, particularly structural violence affecting Black youth. She employs participatory action research methods to amplify voices of marginalized communities, with interests in power dynamics, oppression, and liberation frameworks.

Her work intersects disciplines such as community health, behavioral sciences, and system dynamics, aiming to build capacity in structurally marginalized populations through equitable resource distribution and language-centered interventions.
