Monica Masucci is an Associate Professor in Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the Department of Strategy and Marketing, University of Sussex Business School. She holds a PhD from Bocconi University and is also an Affiliate Professor of Innovation at SDA Bocconi School of Management. She has been a Visiting Scholar at Copenhagen Business School and Ivey Business School and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Her research centers on innovation, entrepreneurship, and strategic management, with a strong focus on the cultural and creative industries, sustainability, open innovation, and entrepreneurial ecosystems. She investigates how firms internationalize, how accelerators develop in universities, and how organizations build green dynamic capabilities. Her work bridges academic theory and practical policy implications, particularly in the creative economy.
The recent articles reflect a consistent trend in studying innovation systems, especially within creative and life science sectors. Her publications explore themes such as corporate venturing, skills integration, sustainability in funding, and the evolution of creative clusters. She frequently collaborates with researchers like Camerani, Brusoni, and Siepel, producing interdisciplinary work with strong policy relevance.

Monica Masucci has supervised multiple PhD students, including Nicola Jane Barron, Wan Shamsul Rezal Wan Salleh, and Beauty Atker. She has secured significant research grants, including from the British Academy and the AHRC for the Centre of Excellence for Policy and Evidence in the Creative Industries. Her teaching includes courses on New Venture Creation, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (MBA), and Strategic Management. She is actively involved in ecosystem development as Head of Institutional Partnerships at Bocconi’s innovation accelerator.
