Monica Gale is a Professor of Classics at Trinity College Dublin, where she has been since 1998. She studied Classics at the University of Cambridge and held previous academic positions at the University of Newcastle and Royal Holloway, University of London. Her research focuses on Late Roman Republican and Augustan poetry, particularly the works of Catullus, Lucretius, Virgil, and Propertius, emphasizing intertextuality, genre analysis, and poetic self-representation. She is currently authoring a Cambridge commentary on Catullus' complete poems.
Her research interests also encompass Greek and Roman didactic poetry, mythological usage in literature, and Roman Epicureanism. Teaching specialties include Roman literature, gender/sexuality studies, and Ciceronian Age culture. She supervises doctoral candidates in Latin literature and related areas.
