Monica Fung

Monica Fung, MD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine. She serves as Clinical Director of the Transplant/Immunocompromised Host Infectious Diseases Program and directs the Transplant/Immunocompromised Host track within the UCSF Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program.

Her research focuses on novel diagnostics and therapeutics for infectious diseases in immunocompromised hosts, particularly solid organ and stem cell transplant recipients. She has contributed extensively to studies on cell-free DNA sequencing for pathogen detection, antimicrobial resistance, and infection management in transplant populations. Recent work includes multiomic profiling of COVID-19 immune responses in transplant recipients and invasive fungal infections.

Her publications span clinical trials, observational studies, and consensus guidelines in transplant infectious diseases, pneumonia diagnostics, and STI retesting protocols. She also serves as a small group leader for the Pathogen Host Defense course at UCSF.
