Mona Röhm is a Research Fellow and Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Sociology and Human Geography, University of Salzburg. She holds an MA in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the University of Vienna (2016). Previously, she served as a Research Associate at the Austrian Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Urban and Regional Research (2017–2018) and lectured on qualitative research methods during that period. Her doctoral research, titled “From Taboo to Talk: Unraveling the Complexities of Discussing Intimacy,” investigates the intersection of intimacies, migration, and gender among Afghan migrants in Austria. She advocates for a reflexive feminist methodology centered on participants’ experiences.
Her research interests span intimate relationships, gender, sexualities, migration, and qualitative methods, with a focus on social/cultural norms and ethnography. She is affiliated with the PLUS Doctorate School “On the move: People, objects, signs” and the Salzburg Migration and Mobility Research Lab (MML PLUS). Notable publications include works on reflexivity in research, ethnographic adaptation during the pandemic, and migrant integration challenges. Her work bridges theoretical insights with practical applications in migration studies and social policy.
